Annie is a barre superstar at M.Power! A favorite among barre lovers, Annie brings intensity and challenge in the warmest way possible. What led you to become a barre instructor?

Much like Molly, before discovering barre I was a big runner but after taking my first barre class I fell in love with the high-energy class format and the way my muscles burned after each workout. I actually got my first barre certification over a year before I actually started teaching – there was something holding me back, but after going thru M.Power’s “Beyond the Barre” training and once the studio opened, my confidence grew and something just felt right. I wanted to inspire others to dig deep and push themselves at the barre, as a metaphor for pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone outside the studio as well. As a bonus, my endurance & speed while running has improved drastically by all the time spent at the barre!

 What barre exercises challenge you the most?

Thigh work gets me every time – especially the pretzel, chair pose, and knee dancing. It hurts like crazy, but something keeps me coming back for more!

 What is your favorite thing about teaching?

I love seeing the same faces coming back to class week after week, and getting to know my students and hear their stories. Several instructors have made lasting impressions on me, and helped me carry on through challenging times. There’s just something really rewarding knowing you have made a difference in someone’s day, much bigger than just delivering a great workout.

 Where would you most like to travel, and why?

I’d really like to travel to Tuscany – I visited Italy summer before last, but would love to spend some quality time in the scenic vineyards. Vancouver is definitely on my bucket list as well!

 Outside of teaching, what do you like to do for fun?

Sounds crazy, but I love to work. I’m blessed in that I’ve created a career that allows me to combine my background in marketing/PR with my passion for fitness, and surround myself with passionate entrepreneurs that share my goal of positioning Baltimore as a major “fit” city. When I’m not teaching or working, I’m most likely taking my puppy for a run along the water in Fells Point, practicing yoga, or checking out a new restaurant or coffee shop with my boyfriend. I also contribute to BMOREtoned, a local lifestyle blog I created alongside two of my close friends.

 What is one thing about you that most people don’t know?

I require way more sleep than the average person, and can fall asleep pretty much anywhere, at anytime – regardless of how much caffeine I drink. I like to think its because I wake up early and go hard all day long, but by 9PM I totally crash.

 Tell us about one goal you are setting for the New Year: 

Something I’d really like to work on in 2016 is becoming more mindful and present in each moment. I have a tendency of over-scheduling and squeezing in as much as I can rather than slowing down and focusing my attention on one thing at a time. I think that’s partly why I appreciate taking classes and teaching so much; I love that when the door closes, I have 60 uninterrupted moments to focus on just one thing, and would love to start incorporating that mindset into other areas of my life as well.
